Where can I find a MSDS Sheet for a cosmetic/beauty product?

Posted on September 6th, 2010

Question by Supernovagirl: Where can I find a MSDS Sheet for a cosmetic/beauty product?
I am doing a school report on Nature Girl hair products and a requirement is the we have to have the MSDS sheet for it. I can not find any MSDS sheets for any of the products from Nature Girl. If anyone knows how to obtain one that would be helpful.

Answer by badhabyt
If not on the web, you will have to call the 800 number, usually listed on the container. MSDSs are not required on consumer sold products, so there may not be one. If there is one, it will have little information on it. That is typical of consumer products.

Professional Makeup Brushes – The Benefit and Types

Posted on September 5th, 2010

Professional Makeup Brushes - The Benefit and Types

Professional makeup brushes are a bit different from the makeup brushes that are provided as "gifts" when you purchase a minimum dollar amount of cosmetics at the cosmetics counter. The free makeup brushes usually have synthetic bristles that break easily and may cause irritation if you have sensitive skin. The bristles aren't tapered, so it's very difficult to blend your makeup properly. Because of that, the length of time in which you will use those brushes is very temporary.

On the other hand, professional makeup brushes can be more expensive, and they are never given away as "gifts". Fewer come with synthetic bristles, and the more popular types are goat, sable, or squirrel. They are also available in different sizes and shapes, which will allow you to properly apply makeup to the desired area of your face or body.

I have to admit that I am partial towards professional makeup brushes, and it simply comes from my experience with using them. Now granted I still use the wedge sponge and Q-tip whenever I need to, but makeup brushes allow me to apply my makeup with precision. Because I love eyeshadow so much, the blending brushes blend the colors together so well, that the look is flawless and complete. There are no harsh lines, therefore giving me a much softer (and professional) look.

There are several types of professional makeup brushes, but I will only cover a few that I think you will need for your everyday makeup application:

1. Application brush - It is usually synthetic and the bristles are straight and firm. This brush is used to apply eyeshadow and concealer to the areas needed. You can usually find them in small or large sizes, but choose the size based on your need.

2. Angle brush - This is my personal favorite because it is typically used to apply eyeliner and to fill in sparse areas of my eyebrows with eyeshadow. The angle brush contains synthetic bristles as well, and is very firm and slanted (at an angle). I highly recommend this brush if you experience difficulties in applying eyeliner because you can "connect the dots" in order to form a straight line.

3. Blending brush - Widely available in natural bristles, this fluffy brush is used to blend eyeshadows on the eyelids to create a softer look. Please note that the smaller brush heads are used for more concentrated blending, and the larger heads tend to spread out the eyeshadow pigment. Choose the head based on the result you are trying to achieve.

4. Powder/Blush brush - Also available in natural bristles, this brush is small enough to apply powder to the face, and large enough to dust blush onto the cheeks. Because the bristles are tapered, it blends really well, and the larger head makes for even distribution.

Makeup brushes hold bacteria and old makeup pigment, which can ruin them over time, and change the color of the makeup you want to wear. The best way to maintain your professional makeup brushes is to wash them at least three times a month in a very mild shampoo (preferably baby shampoo). After washing the heads, press firmly to squeeze out any unnecessary water, shape the bristles while wet, and lay flat to dry. Following this extra step will help you achieve the results you want for years to come.

Best Beauty Products, Ever?!?

Posted on September 5th, 2010

Question by Lady Callie: Best Beauty Products, Ever?!?
I am on a search for the best beauty products. I want to know the best moisturizing moisturizer (I live in the desert and my skin is VERY dry. It sucks up a handful of moisturizer rather quickly, on my FACE) I also need to know the best earth/eco friendly shampoo and conditioner that seriously hydrates, and lip balm that can cure the most cracked and dried up lips. 10 points to the person that gets all of these in one question.
carmex does not work for my lips. it makes it worse.

Best answer:

Answer by Lauren:)

can you give me some Mac foundation reviews?

Posted on September 4th, 2010

Question by Ms. Musically Inclined: can you give me some Mac foundation reviews?
I heard a lot about studio fix. I used it years ago but never stuck around because I wasn't a "makeup person." Right now I use Queen line cover girl but am looking for a different foundation that sticks with you and doesn't make your face look oily after a few hours. And also, I have acne prone skin so I'm trying to be careful with what I use on my face. Any reviews on mac foundation? I have combination oily and dry skin. What are your suggestions with the Mac?

Best answer:

Answer by Crystal C

product packaging does nothing but add to the price?

Posted on September 3rd, 2010

Question by emerald: product packaging does nothing but add to the price?
many people believe there is no importance to the packaging of beauty products, that the bottles and jars are just made neat looking in order to make us buy the products.this can be true, but with some of the new beauty ingredients, packaging has a much larger, more important role.some ingredients are considered unstable, meaning they are affected by sunlight and air exposure.for those ingredients, like retinol and some antioxidants, the packaging is a big deal-if you want to get some use of what you paid for!

Answer by nothingconstant
FYI...
Most of the makeup you buy at a retail store (aka wal mart) has had many fingers, toes, lips, etc. already touching it. It is disgusting. If they worried about their packaging so much then why don't they seal more of the make up so that way you know if someone has dipped their nasty fingers in it or painted their fungused toe with the polish or marked their dirty arm with lipstick to see if it matches.

What do you think? Answer below!

A good way to suggestive sale beauty products at work?

Posted on September 3rd, 2010

Question by RitaBookmite: A good way to suggestive sale beauty products at work?
I work at a retail store and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what I could do to help improve sales in my department. I don't like to feel like I am pushing a product on a customer. I would just like some suggestions on how I could get people interested. Or even a website that had tips on it. Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by cyberforce
Hello RitaBookmite,

The first and most important step in retailing your professional beauty care products is to believe in the products yourself. The products you carry must be products that you are also using on your customers. When they see how beautiful they are after using "the product" they are prime for suggestive sellling. You need not be pushy. A simple "you can duplicate this texture and softness of your hair by using product X". Show them the mousse bottle after you apply it to their tresses and ask, "doesn't this mousse smell like coconuts, wait till you see the results"!
